Bail Bloc

Software that raises money for bail funds.

Visit Bail Bloc

Bail Bloc was a distributed cryptocurrency mining operation. Users who downloaded the app contributed a small portion of their computer's unused processing power to mine Monero. At the end of each month, the Monero was exchanged for US dollars and donated to bail funds in the National Bail Fund Network on a rotational basis. The project mined for the Immigrant Bail Fund in New Haven, Connecticut, and from November 2017 to November 2018 for the Bronx Freedom Fund. 100% of the generated currency was used to post bond for people in ICE detention. Between November 15 and December 15, 2018, The New Inquiry matched in dollars the amount of Monero mined by users. Bail Bloc is a project of The New Inquiry and was created by Grayson Earle, Maya Binyam, Francis Tseng, JB Rubinovitz, Sam Lavigne, Rachel Rosenfelt, Madeleine Varner, Dhruv Mehrotra, Lou Cornum, and the Dark Inquiry collective.
