ArcGIS Online is a cloud-hosted, software-as-a-service GIS platform from Esri for mapping, spatial analysis, data management, and collaboration. It runs in the cloud and is accessed via the internet on any device, with online and offline synchronization for field work. Users work with interactive maps, data-driven styles, and analysis tools, and can share results with specific groups or the public.

The platform supports 2D and 3D web scenes, connections to IoT and sensor feeds, and common geospatial file formats. Analysis tools cover spatial joins, location and routing questions, and what-if scenarios, with AI-enhanced analysis and built-in AI assistants. Data management features include centralized governance, enterprise integrations, and field data collection with offline sync. Automation is available through Python, webhooks, and no-code tools. Integrations include Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Microsoft Azure, Autodesk, and AWS, alongside ArcGIS apps such as Field Maps, Survey123, Dashboards, Experience Builder, and StoryMaps.

ArcGIS Online is sold through annual user type licenses, with six user types aligned to workflows such as creating maps, analysis, data quality, and decision-making. User types include Creator, Professional, Professional Plus, Mobile Worker, Contributor, and Viewer, with progressive permissions and included credits for premium services.
