Apache Solr

Open source, multi-modal search platform built on Apache Lucene

Visit Apache Solr

Apache Solr is a standalone enterprise search server built on Apache Lucene, providing full-text, vector and geospatial search through a REST-like API. Documents are indexed via JSON, XML, CSV or binary over HTTP, and queries are made via HTTP GET returning JSON, XML, CSV or binary results. It supports distributed indexing, replication, load-balanced querying, automated failover and recovery, and centralized configuration.

Key capabilities include schemaless and schema-based data handling, faceted search and filtering, geospatial search, configurable text analysis, query suggestions, spell checking, hit highlighting, and rich document parsing via Apache Tika. Solr supports multiple search indices for multi-tenant architectures, near real-time indexing, and an extensible plugin architecture for indexing, analysis, request handling and query parsing. It offers a built-in administrative user interface, JMX-based monitoring, and security features including SSL, authentication and role-based authorization. Solr can be deployed with Docker or Kubernetes, and the Solr Operator automates Kubernetes deployments.

Solr is open source under the Apache License and is available as a binary download. Community support is provided free through mailing lists and IRC channels.
